We just received a new report from our customer that our Ie7 Web Page They Viewing Trying Close Yes No seemed to be corrupted. The corrupted Web page had the word « ERROR » on it and caused the page to not display properly for the customer. When we asked him what he was looking at, he said he could not see anything at all on his screen. What was confusing to us is the fact that the customer was able to see the error message and still see the web page was not working for him.
We looked up the error and found out that it was probably caused by the « Compatibility Viewer » in the IE7 support folder. Basically, we are using IE7 to support Internet Explorer 7. One of the tests that IE7 performs to make sure it is compatible with the page we are trying to view is to look for the compatibility viewer folder and see if there is a file named « CompatibilityViewer.dll ». If it finds that file, then the web page is looking good to us. However, we found out that it is possible that the Microsoft compatibility viewer was missing or the file was corrupt. The person who reported this issue also reported that it would not allow him to open the IE7 Browser.
As a result, we opened the IE7 Support Folder and found a file named « Ie7-IEBrowser-v1.0.exe » and an EXE named « Internet Explorer-IEBrowser.exe ». To me, the solution was simple. If we can open the « compatibility viewer » file, then we can fix the Microsoft Compatibility Viewer in IE7 and get our customer back on the Internet.
