The Windows XP (to be specific) uses a different type of administrative account. These types of accounts are called « regional accounts ». A Regional Account is an Administrator level account which has certain default privileges and capabilities. However, the Windows Vista and the Microsoft Support Tools (MSU) that are used for this purpose can delete or change the default capabilities of a Regional Account. Such changes are usually done to improve the supportability of the machine. The MSU on the other hand is used to replace a lost Regional Account.
To make a Regional Account work as efficiently as possible it is very important to uninstall and remove the MSU installed by the Support Tools. The reason for this is that it would disrupt the Windows Registry that has been used to configure the Default Configuration Data for the machines and the users. However, before the removal of the MSU the Administrator of the machine should make sure that there is no default machine configuration Data that is missing and if there is then it must be added in the local registry. After the removal of the MSU the Administrator of the machine should go through the list of Default Configuration Data entries that are present in the Local Registry and can then remove those entries that are not required by the user. Once the Local Admin Account has red X Share Permissions that are necessary for the user should uninstall and remove the default share permissions for the machine from the local registry. At this point the Local Admin Account has red X Share Permissions.
Although it is important to remove the MSU from the machine before removing the Default Configuration Data, it is important to keep in mind that if the Administrator has set any requirements for the machine that these should be followed. At this point the Local Admin Account has red X Share Permissions.
