The search for new updates for Windows has come to a screeching halt for now. The latest update is labeled as « Build 82070005 » and it may not be an actual Windows update. You can get the updates from Microsoft, but you will get this one at the same time that Microsoft is making the previous update available again. The updates are fairly small and give you a lot of minor fixes.
The codename for this update is « Windows Hotfix Release ». It is described as fixing a number of bugs and glitches that have been found since the previous release, and that the developers feel have become worse in the past few months. It also includes a number of improvements, including improved video and computer graphic performance. A number of enhancements were also made to support the new application programming interfaces that are required for Windows Vista. The improvements that were made include better error handling for older applications, better access to the network stack, and better error handling for Windows Update.
So what does this hotfix do? It basically « fixes » a problem that Windows Vista had a few months ago. It also fixes a problem that Microsoft has had for quite some time with Windows Update. The latest version of Windows Update seems to get confused when trying to find updates and hangs up most of the time. This particular hotfix should fix all of these problems, but because of the way Microsoft has chosen to roll out this update, it won’t work if you’ve already installed any Windows Updates.
