One of the latest features in Windows Server 2020 is the ability to create a striped volume with a specific mount point. Stripped volumes allow users to split an entire volume up into multiple partitions. This reduces storage usage and allows for better management of hardware in the system. A strip drive is useful when only one partition is required, such as an external hard drive, or if some data needs to be stored on another volume, like a physical floppy disk drive.

The configuration tool, in the background, creates a striped volume in the Linux OS. If you don’t know much about Linux or need to use a stripped volume, you can use a strip drive in the Linux. Windows Server can be booted from the strip drive, as long as you have the strip drive installed in your computer. Windows Server 2020 also includes an option that allows administrators to add new partitions to the strip drive. This option is provided through a GUI tool in the System Management Control (SMC). You can easily add new partitions to the strip drive, which is useful if you are building a new computer or would like to change the existing drive partitions.

While this option may be less than desirable, the software for creating a strip drive works in a similar manner to the Windows installation. This software will take the old partition table and start creating stripes. It will continue this process until it reaches the end of the disk. After the end of the stripe, the software will automatically terminate, which will create the actual striped volume.
