In the Facebook experience, we get these « Error Page » when trying to add friends on Windows. This is not only frustrating and irritating but the Facebook website is also forcing us to the options of not using our account. There are many causes for this error page, though the most common seems to be an attempt to install a feature that is not in the system and thus, it is removed.
The error message in the Facebook window is « Windows cannot open the file. » To fix this problem, there are a few things that should be done. For starters, there are a few registry files that can be opened manually by clicking on the Start button, then selecting Control Panel. Once there, go to the « Programs and Features » tab and then open the « Microsoft » entry. Clicking on « Properties » will show you the entries for Windows’ start menu.
If the « Microsoft » entry does not show any entries for Facebook, then it is possible that you have this error because the Windows registry settings are wrong. To get the registry errors cleared out, it is recommended that you use a registry cleaner tool. You can download one from the Internet or get a free one from the manufacturer. Open the program and select « Run ». It will open up a command prompt window with the option to edit a configuration file, which the cleaner will then scan for problems. Type « msconfig » (without quotes) in the window to get the configuration settings. It will list out all the missing files and what files you need to install.
