Microsoft was given a big blow last week as they dropped Ie8 from their support lists due to being unable to deliver security patches fast enough. This is really unfortunate, but what will happen if your company is not able to secure all the software your employees use? You’re going to lose them! Especially since when the time comes that Microsoft is out of security patches, this might be the only way you can get them… and the issue is actually even worse for larger organizations, which are typically relying on Windows Server support for applications like MS SQL, Windows SharePoint, and others.

The problem for all businesses with many computers is that most of these computers will use an older version of Ie8 Windows Server, even though they may use Hyper-V. And because of this, you need to make sure that your company’s computers are running Microsoft Windows 2020. What that means is that your computers will not be able to run applications like MS SQL, MS SharePoint, or Ie8 Windows Server… not to mention their backups will have problems with time periods as well. That’s a lot of potential downtime to go around, not to mention a lot of anger management costs if you cannot secure these critical software programs.

To be honest, there is not a lot that you can do to speed up the process of getting Ie8 support. Microsoft is actually quite strict about making sure that their products are supported, and they may even ban your company from getting any more support at all if you simply cannot prove that your software is running on the Ie8 Windows Server that they want to use. So what you need to do is try to work with Microsoft to see what they can do for you. If you just cannot get the software from them, you should talk to your IT department and ask them to look for other solutions that might help. In the end, it’s your company’s responsibility to secure the software that it uses, and that includes Windows Server.
