    « Unc Path Using DNS Alias CNAME (sz) », is a Microsoft Windows 2020 technical support ticket for a PC that does not connect to a DNS server. Windows can tell that the client is trying to connect to a DNS server by showing a message box stating that the client attempted to connect, but the DNS server can not be found. At this point the user must restart the computer and try again. Windows doesn’t seem to know which DNS server to use for the PC, and so tries using the default « Server: ».

    One solution to resolve this problem is to configure a secondary DNS server, and this is also called « DNS Alias CNAME ». The reason why this doesn’t work is because « CNAME » stands for « can not resolve » in computer terminology. The DNS server that Windows uses has a separate name to all the names that it will give to IP addresses. This means that all DNS servers have their own names which are not the same as the IP addresses.

    Once you have this resolved, you can simply type the following into the Run command to reload the system:
