Windows Live Mail does not respect junk mail settings when it starts to install. The program will display a confirmation dialog box stating that you need to fix the ‘Un-Junk’ mailboxes in order to be able to use this program. Clicking ‘Fix’ will fail and delete all of the unwanted email folders, making it impossible to do anything else with the computer. If you follow this exact procedure then you will lose all your emails and are unable to recover them.
The easiest solution is to first restore your inbox to its original state (although this is highly unlikely) and then make sure you have all the proper permissions to write to the junk folder. The easiest way to do this is to open the « Run » window and type « msconfig » followed by « mail.protection.windows.com ». Open the entries for ‘Local Appdata’ and click on the entries for the Junk Folder in order to enable it and allow write access to the folder.
